The Poster

“When I think of the legendary Odysseus, the term ‘wandering’ or ‘errancy’ come to my mind. His long journey – fraught with danger and setbacks – may seem exaggerated and unrealistic. Yet I see it as a metaphor for mankind’s eternal challenges. Odysseus was, and still is, a kind of hero – as we all might be, if we choose to be. The dog, once a wolf, is our guide. And in Odysseus’s case, also his most faithful animal companion: Argos. Who waited, unceasingly, for his master’s return.”

Vienna-based painter Deborah Sengl, who has exhibited internationally since 1995, has created an original painting for the production of The Odyssey at Schloss Wartholz. She offers the following thoughts that inspired her.
